Pupil Voice: Our School Council

At Bedenham Primary School, we know how important it is to listen to the children's views and help them to help us make our school an even better place in which to learn and grow.

We particularly like to give Y6 a bigger platform and more responsibility.  Team Captains, from Y6, are voted in by the rest of the school and have a higher profile than the other school councillors.  As you walk around our school you may recognise them because they wear jumpers in the colour linked to their house team.

Team Captains have specific tasks throughout the year:

1) Lead classes to assembly

3) Show visitors around school– school advocates

4) Support the adult leading assembly

5) Have a regular afternoon tea meeting with Mrs Potter ( Executive Headteacher)

6) Manage the meetings

7) Promote the school charity and fund-raising

From the Team Captains, the staff then choose a Head Boy and Head Girl to be primary advocates of Bedenham Primary School.  They are on call throughout the year for tasks with a higher responsibility; showing VIPs around school, talking to the media etc...

The rest of the school are represented by two school councillors per year group, voted for by their peers.  They are expected to have exemplary behaviour and be excellent role models for their peers. They must also be good communicators; liaising with their class, teachers, support staff and the rest of the school council.

The School Council meet on a Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Foice, our Assistant Headteacher. The meetings are chaired and minuted by the children who then have the opportunity to report back to their classes.
